Natural Textile Workshops

Shannon taught a ten week course in Summer 2025 on traditional textile methods including flax processing, yarn spinning, natural dyeing, and weaving at Silverburn Park, Fife.

Inspired by the community for the community!

Open to all skill levels, the course created a welcoming space that encouraged creativity and helped beginners build confidence.

With a relaxed and supportive structure, participants explored a wide range of natural textile skills, alongside stories and techniques inspired by Silverburn’s rich history of linen production at the Flax Mill.

Everyone was enthusiastic and eager to have a go at each activity, often trying techniques for the first time. Participants shared how much they enjoyed the variety of skills on offer and many were excited to take what they’d learned forward into their own creative practice.

Connection through Craft

This project offered time and space to slow down and reconnect with heritage, textiles, and nature in Silverburn's Park.

Involving the local community was central to the project, creating opportunities for shared learning, conversation, and reflection, and reinforcing the importance of caring for both heritage and nature through collective experience.
